brother = sujeito (3ª pessoa do sing.)
(Charles estuda bastante e seu irmão também.)
Charles studies hard and so do his sisters.
studies = simple present
do = verbo aux. do "simple present" (3ª p.do pl.)
his sisters = sujeito (3ª p. do plural)
(Charles estuda bastante e suas irmãs também.)
Tom can speak English fluently and so can Jim.
can speak: can = verbo aux.
so can: can = verbo aux.
(Tom pode falar inglês fluentemente e Jim também.)
Observe que o verbo auxiliar deve concordar com seu respectivo sujeito e, ao mesmo tempo, deve corresponder ao tempo verbal da oração anterior.
Shirley will travel and we will travel too.
Shirley will travel and so will we.
(Shirley viajará e nós também.)
I have done it and you have done it too.
I have done it and so have you.
(Eu tenho feito isso e você também.)
Observe, ainda, que em "ADDITIONS TO REMARKS" há uma inversão - o verbo auxiliar é colocado antes do sujeito.
NEGATIVE ADDITIONS
They didn't do anything and you didn't do either.
They didn't do anything and neither did you.
They didn't do anything and nor did you.
(Eles não fizeram qualquer coisa e você também não.)
FORMAÇÃO:
NEITHER ou NOR + VERBO AUXILIAR + SUJEITO
I haven't given him the book and neither have you.
I haven't given him the book and nor have you.
hanven't = present perfect
have = verbo aux. do "present perfect"
(Eu não lhe dei o livro e você também não.)
He shouldn't have hurt her and we shouldn't either.
He shouldn't have hurt her and neither should we.
He shouldn't have hurt her and nor should we.
(Ele não deve tê-la ofendido e nós também não.)
You can't sing beautifully and I can't either.

Notem que NEITHER e NOR são palavras de sentido negativo, por essa razão não podemos usar NOT.
