USOS DO PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
A) O "PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE" descreve uma AÇÃO QUE ESTAVA ACONTECENDO NO PASSADO, QUANDO OUTRA AÇÃO PASSADA ACONTECEU.
I was dreaming when you woke me up.
dreaming = past continuous
woke = simple past
(Eu estava dormindo quando você me acordou.)
B) O "PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE" descreve também AÇÕES PASSADAS QUE ESTAVAM OCORRENDO SIMULTANEAMENTE.
While his poor wife was doing the dishes, he was watching TV.
(Enquanto sua pobre esposa estava lavando a louça, ele estava assistindo à televisão.)
ATTENTION!!!
Lembre-se dos verbos que não devem ser usados nos tempos contínuos:
a) Verbs of "PERCEPTION": see, hear, taste, smell, recognize etc.
b) Verbs of "EMOTION": love, want, hate, like etc.
c) Verbs of "THINKING": understand, know, remember, forget etc.
d) Verbs of "POSSESSING": own (possuir), belong, owe (dever), have (posse) etc.
