VERBS

Os verbos em inglês têm três formas principais: INFINITIVO, PASSADO e PARTICÍPIO PASSADO. Dessas três formas originam-se todos os outros tempos verbais. O infinitivo, o passado e o particípio passado são também importantes porque, de acordo com eles, os verbos podem ser REGULARES ou IRREGULARES. Vejamos:


VERBOS REGULARES
Infinitive – Simple Past – Past Participle – Translation
to talk – talked – talked = falar, conversar
to want – wanted – wanted = querer
to work – worked – worked = trabalhar

Os verbos regulares caracterizam-se pelo acréscimo do sufixo ED no SIMPLE PAST e no PAST PARTICIPLE.


VERBOS IRREGULARES
Infinitive – Simple Past – Past Participle – Translation
to do – did – done = fazer
to put – put – put = por, colocar
to sell – sold – sold = vender

Os verbos irregulares NÃO seguem regra quanto à formação do SIMPLE PAST e do PAST PARTICIPLE.

Algumas expressões com o verbo TO GET

TO GET UP = levantar-se
He gets up at seven o'clock.
(Ele se levanta às 7 horas.)

TO GET ON x TO GET OFF (só para meios de transporte)
He knows how to get on a horse.
(Ele sabe como subir num cavalo.)

But he never knows how to get off it.
(Mas ele nunca sabe como descer dele.)
